Partial Knee Replacement
Only the damaged surfaces of the knee are replaced with an implant that allows for a return of knee function. All knee ligaments are preserved and a smaller incision is utilized.
There are times when patients suffering from knee pain only have damage in one part of the joint. Often times, in this situation, a partial knee replacement may be recommended. With a partial knee replacement Dr. Clegg replaces only the damaged surfaces of the knee with an implant that allows for a return of knee function. During a partial knee replacement all knee ligaments are preserved and a smaller incision is utilized.
After Surgery, the patient is examined by one of Dr. Clegg’s nurses who will have the patient walking within a few hours of the procedure. Once the patient is ready, and all questions are answered, the patient is discharged home the same day as the surgery.
Dr. Clegg strives to provide a concierge like experience for all of his total joint patients. He will take time to sit down with you and explain the procedure using models and diagrams. You will get a detailed explanation of your x-ray findings. Patient Story
How A Patient Got Back in the Woods with a Successful Partial Knee Replacement
Larry’s knee pain had gotten slowly worse over the course of several years before his family doctor referred him to Dr. Clegg. He was to the point where he could no longer do many of the things he loved, including hiking and being in the woods with local boy scout troops as a long-time scout leader. “It just got to the point where the hills and uneven ground was too much.”
“Larry was suffering from a knee condition known as unicompartmental osteoarthritis,” reports Dr. Travis Clegg M.D., joint replacement specialist. “His pain, which was mostly on the inside part of the knee, was caused from loss of cartilage, resulting in bone-on-bone pressure.”
Because of this, he was an excellent candidate for a minimally-invasive, partial knee replacement.
A partial knee replacement is a procedure in which the worn-out compartment of the knee is re-surfaced. The rest of the knee, including the ligaments and cartilage, are left intact, resulting in pain relief and a more normal feeling knee after surgery.
“I was amazed at how quick I recovered. I was walking without a cane 2 days after the surgery. Dr. Clegg and his team are amazing!”
“Larry was able to return to hiking and doing the things he loves once we got rid of his pain. That is the best part about being a joint replacement surgeon.”
Larry has now been enjoying his “new knee” for over 6 years.
