Anterior Approach Hip Replacement

Our approach allows patients to be up and walking down the hall and climbing stairs within a couple of hours from the operation.

Our hip replacement patients are able to go home the very same day.

During a typical hip replacement a surgeon makes 10-12 inch incision and cuts through the muscle , tendon and bone. With this approach, patients often have a prolonged recovery and are unable to walk independently or drive for several months. These patients also stay in the hospital for several days following the operation.

Dr. Clegg’s anterior approach hip replacement technique involves a 4 inch incision and is performed without cutting through any of the muscles or tendons surrounding the hip joint. This approach allows patients to be up and walking down the hall and climbing stairs within a couple of hours from the operation. Our hip replacement patients are able to go home the very same day.

Most of our anterior approach total hip replacement patients are able to drive within 1-2 weeks of surgery, and return to work much sooner than with traditional hip replacement. Many of our joint replacement patients never have to take any narcotic pain medicine after the procedure.

Dr. Clegg strives to provide a concierge like experience for all of his total joint patients. He will take time to sit down with you and explain the procedure using models and diagrams. You will get a detailed explanation of your x-ray findings. Dr. Clegg and his team will be there for you to answer all of your questions and provide encouragement along your journey to getting rid of your joint pain.

Golfer Gets Back in the Game with Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement

Golfer gets back in the game with minimally invasive hip replacement.J.B. was a 48 year-old father, a busy business owner and avid golfer who had been suffering with hip pain for over 5 years. “I thought I was too young to have a hip replacement and didn’t want to have to take time off of work.”

It was not until he had multiple people tell him about Dr. Clegg’s hip replacement approach and protocol that he decided to call for a consultation. Dr. Clegg’s team got him an appointment within 1 week to talk with him about his options.

“When I saw J.B. he was unable to golf anymore and was having trouble even lacing up his shoes”, says Dr. Clegg, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement. His hip had developed advanced osteoarthritis and was now bone on bone. His hip had also developed several large bone spurs which is also common with hip arthritis.

After talking through his fears and ultimate treatment goals, J.B. decided to have his hip replaced. A decision he calls, “one of the best decisions of my life.”

His surgery, which involves replacing the worn-out surfaces of the knee, took just under 1 hour for Dr. Clegg and his team to perform. He was up walking down the hall within 2 hours and free from pain. “I was home from the hospital by 5pm, and out eating dinner with my family 2 days later.” He was able to return to work just 1 week after the procedure and back on the golf course a short 6 weeks after surgery.

“My advice to anyone considering hip replacement surgery is don’t wait, go see Dr. Clegg today!”
